The children will learn simple measurements, safety measures and cooking methods. They will use basic kitchen “gadgets”, use mixers, blenders etc. The children will sharpen their senses through listening, observing, smelling, touching & tasting.

Manners and food etiquette will be discussed. Proper set up and clean up of cooking are and equipment is part of the daily routine.

Cooking may not be done every day because food & recipe planning is an integral part of the process.

Each child will have a collection of recipes after each session.

Wednesdays ~ “Go Fish to Chess”

Playing children’s games teaches them how to be gracious winners and patient losers. Games are educational. Simply counting spaces out loud or rolling dice can be used to count and add. Memorization games sharpen memory and games like “Pick-up Stix” and “Jenga” promote eye hand coordination. Games like “Battleship”, “Solitaire” and “Chess” promote critical thinking. Math, language, science, rhyming and listening games will be part of the regular routine.

Free Play: Will include educational manipulatives and building toys. Computers are available for computer educational type games. As children learn to play games, particular game stations will allow children to independently play with 2 or more children, examples: Checkers table, Candy Land table, large puzzles area, maze table etc.

Outside Play: Games like Red Light- Green Light, Kick Ball, Tag, etc. will be taught.

Thursdays ~ “Computer Wizard & Mad Scientists”

Basic introduction to computers, microscopes, experiments, charting etc. The children will make gooey messes and slimy creations like play dough, gack, goo, clay and other “kid concoctions”. They will learn to explore, create, learn and experiment, follow recipes and learn how different ingredients react together.

The scientist begins with a question. And then a hypothesis is formed. The children will keep a science notebook to record growths of plants and insects, experiments and findings. Children will learn to keep their experiments organized, and neat. They will understand the Scientific Method. Most experiments will be foolproof but the children will also learn not to worry about failures.

Free play area: Independent learning on computers with games, Tinker toys, magnets, Legos, manipulative, large & small puzzles etc. Microscopes and science tables will be used daily.

Life lessons including concentration, cooperation, imagination, physical skills, and the development of fine and gross motor coordination in a positive, educational & non-competitive environment will be taught daily.

Children will be introduced to basic strengthening and flexibility. Learn the healthy habits of regular exercise. Start their day with warm up exercises and close with imagery of relaxation techniques. This will have an impact on their future participation in sports.
